RHINE - GERMANY

MITTLELRHEIN
GERMANY
The Middle Rhine region of Germany is a cultural and natural landscape located along the Rhine River between the cities of Bingen and Koblenz. This area is known for its scenic beauty, with its rolling hills, vineyards, and the famous Loreley Rock, which has been celebrated in folklore and song. The Middle Rhine is also famous for its many castles, fortresses, and palaces that are nestled along the river, many of which date back to the Middle Ages. During the 19th century, the Middle Rhine became a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to admire its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Today, the Middle Rhine is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is popular with tourists who come to explore its historic cities, sample its wines, and enjoy its scenic beauty.
It was during a dinner at Maaemo restaurant in Oslo that we were struck by the beautiful taste of Riesling wines. Then we decided to drive to southern Germany to Koblenz and explore wineries along the famous Rhine river. It is a humbling experience to see how these grapes grow in the such beautiful scenery. . . no wonder their aroma is as beautiful as the scenery. August Eigruber once said, "The vineyards of the Rhine have the gift of making people happy." Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
